Connecting places through smarter mobility
A strategic infrastructure project in Al Dhafra focused on enhancing pedestrian mobility and safety through upgraded crossings, improved bus stop facilities, and integrated public realm solutions.
The design promotes accessible, inclusive, and sustainable movement while strengthening connectivity between transport nodes and surrounding communities, in line with Abu Dhabi’s urban development vision.
Infrastructure design and planning for a comprehensive network of 12 bus routes, featuring six high-capacity Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors for the Development Commission of Makkah and Mashaaer (DCOMM).
The scope encompassed specialized transit facility design—including high-spec shelters and amenities—integrated with strategic landscaping and pedestrian safety measures.
A city-wide cycle track designed to enhance connectivity and promote active mobility.
The project integrates cycling and pedestrian paths with key activation nodes, including shaded seating, bike racks, outdoor fitness areas, and smart solar-powered shading. Native planting and a cohesive landscape language create a comfortable, sustainable, and vibrant public realm.
Otak was awarded this project to provide services for the upgrade of the road from Al Faya to Razeen and Al Qua’a.
The project connects the Abu Dhabi–Al Ain Truck Road (E30) near Al Faya Interchange in the north, extending approximately 67 km south to Razeen, then turning 73 km east toward Al Qua’a (E95). The road is proposed to be upgraded to a single carriageway with two lanes and shoulders, with provision for future widening and/or dual carriageway conversion. The upgrade will support existing and future developments along the corridor. Access roads to farms will be provided at designated locations with properly designed junctions. The scope includes ducts, culverts, protection or relocation of existing utilities, access to current and future facilities, intersections, U-turns, laybys, road signage, and markings, all integrated into the road design. A street lighting system will be provided where required.
Otak provided consultancy services for the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport to implement safety measures along the newly constructed 55-km road from Umm Al Zomoul to Tawi Arbain.
he design was completed within three months, in parallel with the rehabilitation of the road from Al Qua’a to Umm Al Zomoul. The road runs along the UAE–Kingdom of Saudi Arabia border in the southernmost part of the country, and the design includes widened shoulders and safe side slopes. The scope also incorporated duct crossings, stormwater spillways, guardrails, appropriate road signage and pavement markings, and access to farm roads. The construction budget for the project is AED 200 million.
